Sermon Insights
“One of your most distinctive gifts is the way you hold together serious biblical exposition and genuine, laugh-out-loud personality without sacrificing the integrity of either.”
Read the full insights report →In this message from Cornerstone Fountain Valley's study through Hebrews, Pastor Elliot explores how chapter 2 balances the exaltation of Christ in chapter 1 with the depth of his voluntary humiliation. He explains that Jesus was made positionally lower than the angels not because of any moral deficiency, but to fulfill his role as the suffering high priest who both offers and becomes the atoning sacrifice for humanity. The sermon calls believers to resist spiritual drift by anchoring themselves in the word, trusting a Savior who, having suffered and been tempted, is fully able to help those who are struggling.

Unlock with your sermon →According to Hebrews 2, Jesus being 'made perfect through suffering' doesn't mean he had moral flaws. It means he was brought to the completion of his saving role as our high priest. He is both the priest offering the sacrifice and the sacrifice itself, fully atoning for humanity's sin out of love.
This sermon teaches that drifting is our natural autopilot as humans. The solution is intentional engagement with God's word, knowing it and obeying it. Without that intentionality, we inevitably drift toward selfishness and old patterns. Staying in Scripture keeps us on the path God has called us to walk.
This sermon teaches that tough seasons are often where faith becomes most real and our relationship with Jesus grows deepest. Like Joseph, who endured slavery and prison yet had God's hand on him throughout, difficult seasons drive us to seek God alone, and that closeness is where genuine spiritual growth happens.
